The pentatonic scale is a five note scale. It can be formed from just about any scale…but for the purposes of this blog post…we will just use major. To spell a major pentatonic scale…use the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th scale degrees of major scale. For instance…a C Major pentatonic scale is C, D, E, G, and A. There are sooo many great artist that utilize the pentatonic scale in their vocabulary (check out Kenny Garret). Click below for a some patterns to practice to get you started.
