Charlie Parker was one of the early pioneers of bebop. When I started learning jazz…my teacher told me to buy the Charlie Parker Omnibook and play through the entire thing. I feel as though I should clarify…I was learning how to play jazz (swing, articulate, etc.). I know many purists will say you should learn straight from the recordings…but that wasn’t the way that I initially started.
Regardless of the method…you can’t deny that Charlie Parker helped form much of the bebop vocabulary. In the video below, I played some of my favorite “major” bird licks. I hope you enjoy.
